Europe Day, held on 9 May every year celebrates peace and unity in Europe. 

The date marks the anniversary of the historic 'Schuman declaration' (1950) that set out his idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe. Schuman's proposal is considered to be the beginning of what is now the European Union.

Promoting peace and security and respecting fundamental rights and freedoms are among the European Union’s aims and values.  

To mark Europe Day, the EU institutions are inviting everybody to a wide range of online and on-site activities both in Member States and around the world.
