The OPEN TOURISM second workshop "The resilience of the tourism industry after the Covid period" was held on 18 June 2021 at the Mak Albania Hotel.
OPEN TOURISM seeks to include local businesses in providing visitors with information and assistance, as well as building beneficial relationships with them. This will be accomplished through hosting seminars on a variety of topics that will improve participants' business and personal skills. Some of the main objectives of the project were presented, like developing and implementing a cross border public private corporation strategy aimed at promoting and enhancing cultural and natural heritage and sustainable economic and social development of the involved territories.
Cross-border collaboration will be important in meeting this ambitious goal. It will enable the creation of a more inclusive and broader network; the maximization of efforts in finding solutions to common problems; the integration of services, expertise, and ideas to create synergies and common goals; the development of more comprehensive and effective strategies, products, and services; and the benefiting from the experiences of others.
Mr. Leonard Maci, the Marketing Director of GP Travel, during his speech about the effect of covid-19 on tourism mentioned that pandemic has profoundly affected international travel and has led to a decline in the demand of tourism services affecting the tourism labor market and increasing the level of structural unemployment. Mr. Maci added that a shift in sustainable tourism affects many individuals and communities especially in less developed countries.
Mr. Florian Bilali, gave a detailed description of the Open Tourism Project and its outcomes. He spoke about the difficulties of normal tourism activities. Bilali added that effects of the pandemic will be apparent after the declaration of its termination, given the epidemiological outbreaks that will be active in different regions of the world.
Assessment of the return to regular tourism activity is challenging to approximate both the time horizon and the intensity of the economic recovery. The newly launched APP caught the curiosity of the stakeholders. Free to download and use even while not connected to the internet. Finally, the Open Tourism team distributed a survey on the initiative, and stakeholders discussed tourism's challenges and potential solutions.
