PHASE project, The Outcomes of the Workshop “Telemedicine in Europe and Albania”
Overview

The workshop "Telemedicine in Europe and Albania" was held on 13 November 2023 in Tirana, as part of the project PHASE Promoting eHealth in cb Area by Stimulating local Economies, in which 9 partners from Italy, Albania and Montenegro are cooperating. The project aims to promote innovation in the health sector in order to significantly improve people's quality of life through technologies that overcome physical limitations in ordinary and extraordinary care paths.

"The main purpose is to present an analysis of the current situation in Albania and to highlight the opportunities for further development, especially through the education of all parties and at all levels. The discussion is focused on the role of healthcare providers and beneficiaries in the successful use of telemedicine in Albania. It is closely linked to developments in other areas, such as education, digital infrastructure, data safety and protection, social policies, etc. This is why we will try to make telemedicine as widespread as possible in order to better manage patients with cardiological chronicity, neurodegenerative diseases, or in urgent-emergency cardiological conditions." With these words Skender Brataj - Director of QKUM - opened yesterday morning the cycle of events planned in Albania, as part of the PHASE Project, financed by the Interreg IPA CBC Italy-Albania- Montenegro 2014-2020 programme.

"Strengthening the use of Telemedicine will bring long-term benefits to the health service, as a result of earlier diagnosis and treatment, especially for chronic diseases that have high treatment costs. Albania has entered the road of health digitisation and the human resources it engages are knowledgeable and willing to advance it, as this survey reveals. The pace should be accelerated by adopting best practices through the engagement of policymakers, businesses, civil society, and especially higher education institutions. eHealth and telemedicine", continued Dr. Brataj, "In this context, we wanted to give a further boost to the PHASE project, which involves Italy-Albania and Montenegro and has the QKUM as project partner, by promoting telemedicine in the field of emergencies and chronicity".
