An important step towards a smarter and more sustainable future is being made at the Port of Termoli thanks to the Interreg IPA South Adriatic Connectivity project “Connecting the South Adriatic: establishing a secure, efficient, and resilient connectivity governance”. Through a pilot action led by the Southern Adriatic Sea Ports Authority (AdSPMAM), the port is strengthening its role as a hub for innovation and cross-border cooperation. Targeted investments and advanced technologies are improving efficiency, safety and environmental performance, contributing to a more connected, resilient and sustainable South Adriatic area.
Thanks to the Connectivity project, the Port of Termoli is undergoing a concrete process of improvement that strengthens both its infrastructure and day-to-day operations. Through targeted investments and small-scale works, the port is being equipped with modern electronic and IT tools that support more efficient management and better digital integration. At the same time, security procedures are being reinforced through the introduction of a mobile baggage inspection unit, making luggage and cargo checks faster and more effective. These actions are complemented by minor works on the port quays, aimed at improving the overall functionality and usability of port areas. Together, these interventions help the Port of Termoli move closer to the technological and environmental standards of other key ports in the Southern Adriatic, supporting a more efficient, safe and sustainable maritime system.
The pilot action in Termoli strengthens the cross-border dimension of the Connectivity project by supporting new maritime links between Italy, Albania and Montenegro. It contributes to building a coordinated governance framework for port development, addressing shared challenges such as decarbonisation, air quality, biodiversity protection and sustainable logistics.
By enhancing infrastructure, digital systems and operational standards, the Port of Termoli plays a key role in fostering a more connected, resilient and sustainable South Adriatic area, delivering tangible benefits for port authorities, operators, local communities and the wider regional economy.
