After an intense collaboration between Albania, Italy, and Montenegro, the AMTECH project reaches its final milestone: the Closing Conference to be held on May 29, 2025, at the Tirana International Hotel.
The conference, entitled “Additive Manufacturing: Lessons Learnt & Perspectives in the IPA Cross-Border Area”, will bring together representatives from institutions, research centres, industry, and innovation support organizations to reflect on the results achieved and outline future opportunities for regional cooperation in the field of advanced manufacturing.
Over the course of the project, AMTECH has supported the introduction of 3D printing and digital manufacturing technologies into local production systems, with a specific focus on enhancing the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and encouraging knowledge transfer between industry and academia. The initiative has also fostered stronger links between public and private stakeholders in the development of a cross-border innovation network.
A key moment of the conference will be the presentation of the Joint Action Plan, developed in collaboration with project partners, which outlines strategic directions for continuing cooperation in the field of AM. The event will also include the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, aimed at formalizing the shared commitment to long-term collaboration between SMEs, incubators, universities, and public authorities.
Anxhela Bushati, representative of the Ministry of Economy, Culture and Innovation, stated:
“The AMTECH project has served as a key catalyst in the digital transformation of Albania’s industrial sector. It has laid a strong foundation for the development of advanced technologies such as additive manufacturing, while strengthening collaboration between institutions, universities, and businesses. We believe that investing in these technologies is essential for building a more competitive and sustainable regional economy.”
The AMTECH project has highlighted the potential of cross-border initiatives to accelerate technological transformation, even in traditional sectors such as footwear, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, and nautical industries. It has also demonstrated the strategic role of regional innovation ecosystems, such as that of Puglia, in facilitating cooperation and capacity-building across borders.
This final event represents not only a conclusion, but a forward-looking moment to reaffirm a shared vision for a more innovative, connected, and sustainable South Adriatic.
