CrossWater+ project enhances the resilience of water services in the South Adriatic Area
Overview

Water is a fundamental resource. To be managed with all possible care, while at the same time ensuring efficiency, reliability and sustainability of supply and distribution systems, according to a design hinged on the concept of resilience to which all technological tools and infrastructures must be oriented.

These were the themes at the center of the workshop “How to secure water supply and create resilient water infrastructures”, held in Bari in the conference room of Acquedotto Pugliese.

This workshop represents the second event of the project CrossWater+

Numerous interventions, polarized toward a main goal: water is the lifeblood for the well-being and development of every community and, therefore, it is necessary to implement every initiative, especially on the level of technological innovation, so that it is protected and enhanced.

All the best practices have been illustrated, during the workshop, by the representatives of the three water companies. "The climate crisis and growing water needs urge water managers to deploy new and more effective technological solutions along with greater and more intense synergy than in the past. “A synergy that,” explained the General Manager of Acquedotto Pugliese, Francesca Portincasa, ”sees as protagonists the realities of the sector from three different countries of the Mediterranean basin, engaged in collaboration and exchange of analyses and experiences within the framework of a community development project.

The workshop was a valuable opportunity to compare knowledge and experiences in water resource management, with the focus on savings, resilience and circularity of the resource. Goals to be achieved by leveraging a massive fair share of innovation. A path to be taken with respect for the environment and sustainability. As indicated by the Strategic Plan of Acquedotto Pugliese, whose pillars correspond to diversification and research of new sources of supply, efficiency and rehabilitation of the network, technological innovation for a full connection of the entire structural apparatus, reuse of water refined in agriculture. “A horizon toward which Acquedotto Pugliese is projected with strength and confidence, in the knowledge that its vast and articulated heritage of knowledge and experience in the field represent a driving force for development and well-being to be shared with all other utilities, committed to sustainable development, that is, one that respects both the needs of citizens and those of the natural environment,” AQP General Manager, Francesca Portincasa, concluded.

This Workshop has been also recognized as Partner Event of the 2024 EU Green Week, which is campaign promoted by the European Union in order to stimulate a wide conversation around water today and in the future and to foster environmental awareness promoting positive and collaborative solutions.
