Interreg Bridging Communities puts communities at the heart of mental health
Overview

The Bridging Communities Across the South Adriatic project will be officially launched by the Albanian Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, on Friday, 19 December 2025 (09:30 -16:30), during the Kick-off Meeting in Tirana, hosted at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Lead Partner of the initiative.

Co-financed by the Interreg IPA South Adriatic Programme 2021–2027, the project aims to strengthen cross-border cooperation in mental health promotion through community-based and culturally oriented approaches.

Bridging Communities is a pilot project that aims to improve mental health care in the South Adriatic area in simple and practical ways. It introduces new forms of support inspired by nature, art and local culture, helping people feel more included and supported within their own communities.

The project also works to strengthen cooperation between mental health professionals and third-sector organisations, making services easier to access and helping communities better understand mental health issues. By doing so, it addresses two key challenges: the limited availability of services and the social stigma that still surrounds mental health.

Bridging Communities is implemented in partnership with the University of Foggia (Italy), Kalenarte / MAACK – Museum of Contemporary Art (Italy), the University of Medicine of Tirana (Albania), EuRelations EEIG (Italy), and the NGO “Culture Club” (Montenegro).
