Montenegro will host a pivotal seminar on water management as part of the Interreg IPA South Adriatic Programme and the CROSSWATER+ project. Titled “Exploring the Water Supply System in Montenegro,” the event will take place on March 13, 2025, at the Bolje Sestre Spring, bringing together experts and stakeholders to discuss the challenges and advancements in the sector.
Organized by the Regional Waterworks for the Montenegrin Coast, the seminar aims to enhance cross-border cooperation and facilitate the exchange of best practices in sustainable water management. Representatives from public institutions, regulatory agencies, and international project partners from Italy and Albania will gather to address pressing issues such as water loss management, tariff setting, and infrastructure improvements. Discussions will also focus on the impact of IPA projects on Montenegro’s water supply system, as well as specific challenges faced in different regions, including Podgorica, Cetinje, and the north.
The event will open with remarks from Zoran Lakušić, President of the Board of Directors of the Regional Waterworks for the Montenegrin Coast, and Krsto Radović, the Executive Director of the same institution. Key presentations will follow, featuring insights from the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development, and Northern Development, along with contributions from the Regulatory Agency for Energy and Utilities (REGAGEN) and other national and local water management authorities.
As part of the seminar, participants will embark on a study visit to key infrastructure sites, including Bolje Sestre Spring, the primary water source for the Montenegrin coast, and Reljići Pumping Station, where they will gain a deeper understanding of the Đurmani reservoir, the Sozina hydro-technical tunnel, and other critical network elements.
By fostering dialogue and international collaboration, this seminar represents a significant step toward improving the efficiency and sustainability of water supply systems in the South Adriatic region. With growing environmental concerns and infrastructure demands, initiatives like CROSSWATER+ play a crucial role in ensuring long-term water security and resource management.
