EXTRA, 3 days in the name of environmental sustainability - 9-11 August, Serranova
Overview

As part of the EXTRA Project, 3 days of meetings and debates will take place between 9 and 11 August 2021, at the Torre Guaceto Visitor Center located in Serranova di Carovigno, in the province of Brindisi, which will focus on sustainability policies environmental and social aspects of the territories and exchanges between operators in the field of agriculture and tourism. All in the frame of the eighth edition of the Earth and Sea Markets Event of Torre Guaceto, with the collaboration of the Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity, which represents the eco-gastronomic path able to unite the virtuous producers of Puglia, thus offering participants a multisensory experience, made up of insights and taste, and offers sector operators food for thought for the start of new paths of sustainable development and promotion.

The program of events, financed by the Interreg IPA CBC Italy-Albania-Montenegro Programme, foresees the carrying out of 2 of the three initiatives planned in the Apulian territory.

The International Seminar "Slow Food Presidium as a tool for sustainable environmental and social development" will be divided into the days of 9 and 11 August and will take place in the amphitheater of the Visitor Center from 9 pm.

The first day is dedicated to the main theme: sustainable fishing and tourism. Among the speakers there will be the president of Torre Guaceto, Rocco Malatesta, Marco Dadamo and Francesco Sottile of Slow Food,  Flamur Mamaj prefect of the Municipality of Valona,  Rigers Bakiu of the University of Tirana and of Donato Penatassuglia, councilor of the agriculture and fishing of the Puglia Region. We will discuss the actions taken in the Apulian territories, with particular reference to the Torre Guaceto area, and in the Valona territory, with an exchange of experiences on the involvement of fishermen above all in conservation and sustainability policies.

On the 11th, always in the same place from 9 pm, the focus will be on sustainable tourism as a way forward for the conservation of food and cultural biodiversity. Speakers will be Riccardo Rossi, president of the Province of Brindisi, Luca D'Andrea referent for Slow Food Travel Puglia, Lara Marchetta of WWF Italy, Nexhip Hysolakoj Head of Monitoring Unit at RAPA Vlore, Enzo di Roma, president of the Consorzio Albergatori Carovigno, Francesco Carlucci director of Federparchi, Aldo Patruno, director of the Department of tourism, economy of culture and enhancement of the territory of the Puglia Region.

The second event is the one dedicated to exchanges between operators, called B2B, and which sees the Piazza dei Mercati as a meeting and discussion place between the producers who will animate the 3 evenings. The starting point will be the markets and the 30 producers but it will also be an opportunity for face-to-face meetings between the invited Albanian personalities and realities of the Apulian territory that represent best practices.

On the mornings of 10 and 11 August, the program includes visits to companies such as the Avetrana Tuna Factory, protagonist of the transformation of sustainable fish, the Community of tomato producers of Crispiano, the community of producers of the fiaschetto tomato of Torre Guaceto. On the evening of 10, at the Torre Guaceto Visitor Center from 8 pm, it will be the occasion for an exchange forum on the creation of producer communities in the marine parks of Torre Guaceto and Karaburun Sazan
