The Municipality of Mirabello Sannitico (Molise) will host on 14–15 October 2025 the Kick-off Meeting, Info Day and Press Conference of POSITIVE CITIES, co-funded by the Interreg IPA South Adriatic Programme, to reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency in the public sector through innovative practices and tools.
The initiative involves the municipalities of Mirabello Sannitico and Noci (Italy), Tirana (Albania) and Tuzi (Montenegro), and is inspired by the principles of the new European Directive 1275/2024 on the Energy Performance of Buildings (EPBD) – known as the Green Homes Directive – part of the Fit for 55 package, which sets the target of zero emissions by 2050.
During the two-day event, project partners presented the operational plan and main activities, including the creation of a joint energy audit model for public buildings, the implementation of cross-border Living Labs, and the construction of a zero-emission building in Mirabello Sannitico, a concrete symbol of the energy transition promoted by POSITIVE CITIES.
The Info Day and Press Conference gathered local administrators, energy experts and representatives from the technical and academic sectors, who discussed key topics such as energy communities, sustainable urban regeneration, and the role of cities in achieving climate neutrality.
“POSITIVE CITIES represents both a challenge and an opportunity for our territories: to build more sustainable, inclusive and energy self-sufficient cities,” said Angelo Miniello, Mayor of Mirabello Sannitico.
The project promotes a gradual transformation process: starting from the energy retrofitting of public buildings, and then extending the model to the private sector, with the goal of making entire cities in the Adriatic area energy independent.
The name POSITIVE CITIES reflects the positive impact that zero-emission buildings and cities can generate on the society–economy–environment system, making a concrete contribution to the fight against climate change.
